My first visit at The King Manor Museum
A Friday on October 21th,2005, I had a beautiful experience knowing about one of so many cultures of our new home, The United States.
In a cold afternoon where my classmates and I followed our English Teacher Ms Fahey to a very important house for our city where we are living currently, New York. Who will be Rufus King? I thinked ,he would be a king or a person who helped a lot during the american revolution. I didn’t know exactly who was Mr King, but when I went to visit this Museum located 3 blocks from York College, I faced what Mr. King was an American politicial leader, he served biretly in the American Revolution and practiced law in Massachussets before serving (1783-85) as a member of the Massachusetts General Court. He was (1784-87) a delegate to the Continental Congress, where he helped draft the New Constitucion of the United States in 1787 and was chiefty responsible for the exlusion of slavery from the Northwest Territory.
He was a effective supporter of a strong central government and helped to secure Massachusetts’s ratification of the Constitution.Moving to New York City, Kng was elected to the state assembly and was chosen (1789) as one of New York’s first two U.S Sentarors. Good .These are something he did.But I want to talk about his house that is a museum very visited by people who likes to know more about The American Culture, one of them whom we are.
The library was one of the things who showed how many books he read. The amount was five thousand books, but it wasn’t written in English only if .in varied languages as French,Italian and Latin.
The King’ piano was very portatil for this time. It was very strange for me because I think that a thing too small could be created in our time, but I realized that it wasn’t of this way.
The dining room showed an oval structure with four door used for an occation, its color yellow meant peace or bright for me. On the wall I can checked a picture showing a young woman into it.She looked like pregnant, but I didn’t ask to my guide in the museum any kind of question because I was very amazed looking Mary Alsop King ,Rufus King’wife.
Good, I have a lot of things in my mind for telling about the visiting in this museum, but I won’t forget it when Ms.Fahey take us out to visit Rufus King’ house because she estimulate us to know more about The American Culture ..Today, It is a great museum where one street very near is called Rufus King. |
