Venessa Pension

The pension consists of three houses, which are connected and open to each other. They are all built in the old world style, with volcanic stone as a building material and caves, arches, and stairways to explore. About 5 km/ 3 miles away from Avanos is the site of Zelve. Here, you can see the ruins of an ancient community of houses carved into the rock. No one knows for sure how long ago people started to dwell in these houses, but it is know it was a Christian community from the 9th to the 13th centuries. You can visit the Çavuşin (Nicephorus Phocas) Church, which was built between 964 and 965 AD. Or explore the Özkonak Underground City, which has building spread over a large area and are connected by underground tunnels and goes ten floors down below the surface. Some of the rooms in the pension are built underground in the same style.
