Riad De Vinci

Enjoyed my stay at Riad De Vinci. The staff are great and willing to wait on you hand and foot. The accommodations are clean, bright and spacious making this place a great home away from home. Many amenities offered like multiple lounging areas, a relaxing TV room, WIFI and quaint pool in the courtyard to use should the heat of Marrakech get to you. The location is excellent as it is max 10 min walk to Jemma El Fna. The riad is also close to a medina entry point making hailing a taxi to visit the Atlas mountains, Berber villages or finding your way back to the train/airport a breeze. In the morning they serve breakfast consisting of coffee, traditional mint tea combined with Moroccan inspired pastries and bread.
The style of the riad itself is quite different as the owner (an artisitic kind of guy) put a modern twist on the place. From the stucco interior, (I think its stucco) to the smooth rounded lines of the walls/floors and beach faded distressed doors coupled with modern furnishings/decorations gives a feel of what a modern riad would be like near the ocean. I liked it for its originality as well as its comfort. Never imposing, this place made spending time in the common areas with other guests pleasurable .
I believe one would be hard pressed to find a place of this quality for a better price. I can't reiterate how friendly and genuine the staff and owners are. Staying in a riad, preferably a moroccan owned riad is a far better choice then staying at a generic hotel chain. In a riad you are living in the medina, experiencing the people and culture firsthand as well as spending time in a cozy, personal setting.
Thanks Taoufik, We greatly appreciated your kindness and hospitality.

Riad De Vinci is very stylish inside, with everything top quality. However-a piece of advice-our room was on the ground floor, right next to the courtyard where breakfast is served so not that private. There is no way to lock your door. The hotel's owner aranged for us to be guided to the main square (incredible!) the first time we went which was great. It's aabout a 10-15 mins walk and cost us 20d to come back in a taxi at night. The Riad is very quiet, and in a residential area away from the main husle and bustle which will suit some people and not others.

Prior to arriving in Marrakech, I emailed the owner (who as mentioned by other reviewers doesn't speak much English at all...you may find using Google translator an to draft an email very beneficial if done sentence by sentence).
I arranged an airport pick up for me and my boyfriend, and we got a confirmation email saying we would be picked up. We were willing to pay to get picked up, but just thought it better to arrange with the Riad as they would have given a fair price. Unfortunately arriving at the airport no one was there. We called and were told to get a Taxi, which ended up costing 200dirham (about £20, which is pretty expensive considering the airport isn’t that far). We were met by the Riad and had our luggage carried.
This was our only slightly negative experience of the staying at Riad De Vinci. The claim that it is hard to find, is not the case. In general you will find that the Medina area and the Souks can be very confusing. Narrow roads with signs in Arabic for the most part, so finding this Riad is not that much harder than finding any other Riad in the Medina. Some Riads are just off a main road while De Vinci is a little more tucked away in a residential area, but you’ll have no problems finding it after the first day. You’ll need a map in Marrakech anyway.
The Riad is beeeautiful and we had gorgeous suite with impeccable décor, spotlessly clean with gorgeous touches like rose petals on your bed and a large stone bath.

The Riad is beeeautiful and we had gorgeous suite with impeccable décor, spotlessly clean with gorgeous touches like rose petals on your bed and a large stone bath.
The shower in our room wasn’t mounted on the wall so has to be held. Also, you can’t lock your door, even from the inside. This wasn’t a problem as it’s a very small Riad with only 4 rooms or so. The pool near the entrance is gorgeous to look at, but if’s more of a plunge pool than anything. We didn’t actually use it because it was quite cold (we did a little hand temperature test). At night it gets a little chilly and we had issues with turning the a/c into heating mode. This was the only time where the language barrier was a problem as it was hard to communicate the issue. Also, speaking French
Is a great bonus if staying at this Riad, we would have got more in the way of tips and suggestions if we could speak French, so instead we were pretty much left to our own devices other than the occasional “Bonjour” and “Au revoir”. The man from the Riad next door does speak English to they call him if you have an important query or issue and he’ll translate.
Be aware that there is a Cat in this Riad, sometimes a few cats. I wish I’d have known because I have a cat allergy and during breakfast it’s always around and may attempt to climb on to you or sit beside you. It’s a harmless enough cat, but it’s always around. Allergy suffers should probably stay in a hotel because there are cats in pretty much every open space, terrace area etc and most Riads tend to have an open terrace which will usually attract cats.
Breakfast was pretty good, especially the pancakes. There didn’t seem to be a set time for breakfast which was nice, although we generally had it between 9-10am. The breakfast is alternated every day and the yellow, spongy type pancakes aren’t as nice but there’s still bread, marmalade, jam, delicious mint tea, coffee and orange juice.
The terrace is small, but quaint…again the whole Riad is immaculately clean and well kept. I would definitely recommend as it’s one of the cheaper Riad’s we found for such high quality. The walk to the main square Djemaa El Fna is about a 15minute walk which does seem long at times, but you can get a taxi for 6-10 dirham (50p- 80p) if you wanted.
On our last day we were asked to be taken to the airport, which the manager kindly did for free, which very much made up for initially not being picked up.

As others have stated Riad de Vinci is a lovely, clean, quiet oasis. Were it any closer to the Medina it might not have been as quiet. The staff are very attentive. I travelled with my son and his family. Trying to keep the 1 1/2 year old from falling in the pool, and touching the charming candles on the stairs was a bit stressful... The four year old knocked one of the 4 foot high candlesticks in the pool and got rose petals everywhere. The staff was good about it though. I would say this is a great place to stay if you don't have toddlers. Also, the owner had a friend pick us up with a mini van to take us to the airport - it was so helpful as our flight was supposed to leave early in the morning.
